Amaranth Apple Porridge for Toddlers and Kids

As we all know food is medicine and variety is key for babies. Let’s not limit to certain foods which we feel are right or which we consume. Amaranth is one such variety that can be offered to babies.
Amaranth or Rajgira porridge can be given to babies above 8 months. We have shown you earlier how to prepare Amaranth porridge for babies using Amaranth flour. In this article, we will be sharing a recipe to prepare a porridge using amaranth grains and apples.

Amaranth is regularly used these days and is mostly available in organic stores. Amaranth grains are best and efficient when soaked well because nutrients are easily available to kids.
Is Amaranth allergic to babies?
Few of them are usually hesitant to give amaranth to babies but it’s the rarest of the rare cases to have allergies to babies, less than a percent is being reported. Any food for that matter if we are introducing to the babies at an early age say about a year, chances of allergies are less and if someone has allergic reactions to certain foods in your family, say family history then you need to be careful and even then introducing in the first year is good and if you are giving something new to the baby where you need to attentive and cautious about it then give it in the morning so that you can seek medical attention if in case.

Amaranth Apple Porridge for Toddlers and Kids

Ingredients
- Amaranth Seeds - 2 tbsp
- Water - To soak
- Apple - 1/2 grated
- Cinnamon Powder- 1/2 tsp
- Milk - As needed
- Jaggery Powder - 2 tsp
- Ghee - 1 tsp
Method
- Take about 2tbsp of Amaranth seeds in a bowl and soak for about 4- 10 hours. Soaking overnight is a better option.
- Transfer the soaked Amaranth seeds to a bowl along with water, add a little amount of Milk or Water.
- Add 1/2 cup of grated apple and stir well for a minute in simmer.
- Add 1/2 tsp of Cinnamon Powder to this, also add Jaggery powder for 1 year plus kids.
- Add 1 tsp of Ghee to the whole mixture.
- Now pan cook for about 30 minutes or pressure cook for 5 whistles.
- Amaranth Apple Porridge is ready.

Method of making Amaranth Apple Porridge

2. Transfer the soaked Amaranth seeds to a bowl along with water, add a little amount of Milk or Water.
3. Add 1/2 cup of grated apple and stir well for a minute in simmer.
4. Add 1/2 tsp of Cinnamon Powder to this, also add Jaggery powder for 1 year plus kids.
5. Add 1 tsp of Ghee to the whole mixture.
6. Now pan cook for about 30 minutes or pressure cook for 5 whistles.
7. Amaranth Apple Porridge is ready.
Do note that Porridge will have a grainy texture if the baby doesn’t like it you can use Amaranth flour or Blend it.
