Jowar Dal Cereal for Babies and Toddlers

Jowar Dal Cereal is a protein-rich mix and healthy with whole-grain goodness for babies. This is a great combination of millet and pulses, I’ve used moong dal or yellow lentil here. Jowar is wholesome and satiating commonly known as sorghum – Gluten-free, rich in Fiber along with other benefits. Jowar Dal Cereal mix can be prepared once and is handy during travel and when you need to cook something quick. This can be given to babies 8+ Months.
Jowar is among the healthiest choices you can make for your daily carbohydrate intake, and dal will always suffice the protein needed for a baby’s daily diet.

Jowar Dal Cereal for Babies and Toddlers

Ingredients
- Jowar - 1 Cup
- Moongdal - ½ Cup
- Walnuts - 10 (Optional)
- Cardamom - 2
- Nutmeg - ¼ tsp
For Porridge : - Jowar Dal Cereal – 2 tbsp
- Almond Jaggery Powder / Dry Fruits Powder – 1 tsp
- Ghee – as needed
- Water / Milk – as needed
Method
- Take a wide pan, add Jowaror sorghum, and dry roast it for about 8 to 10 minutes. If you do not find whole grains of Jowar you can use Jowar flour by heating it for 5 minutes and follow the rest of the procedures.
- When roasted well observe the color of the grain changes to a golden brown. Transfer it to a plate and allow it to cool.
- To the same pan, add moong dal (yellow lentil) and dry roast it until it changes its color to a golden brown. Once it is well-roasted transfer it to a plate to cool.
- Add Walnuts along with cardamom and dry roast for about 4 to 5 minutes. Cardamom/elaichi enhances the taste and eases digestion.
- Add these cooled roasted ingredients to a blender jar.
- Grate a pinch of nutmeg, it acts as a great flavoring agent and also improves appetite and immunity.
- Blend the mixture into a smooth powder, and store in an airtight container and can be stored for a few days.
For making Porridge:
- To a thick bottom pan, add the required amount of Jowar Dal Cereal powder along with Almond Jaggery Powder or palm sugar. You can also add Organic Jaggery. You can purchase Dry Fruits Powder or Nuts Powder from TOTS AND MOMS FOODS and add alongside optionally.
- Add ghee followed by milk and mix all the ingredients, so that no lumps are found.
- On a low flame, cook the porridge by continuously stirring until the mixture gets the desired consistency.
- Nutritious Jowar dal Cereal porridge is ready to be served.
