Vaginal Care for Young Girls in Summer

My 10-year-old daughter complains of regular itching in her vagina, and my friend’s 17-year-old daughter has scratched it so badly due to the same irritation and burning sensation all the time, that we had to rush her to a gynecologist immediately. Itching and irritation in private parts, along with white discharge, are the most common health concerns faced by young girls and women of all ages during summer. Vulval hygiene for children is one of the best practices for young girls in terms of vaginal health. Along with this, certain changes in food, clothing, and routine are necessary for a healthy summer. In this article, we will discuss Vaginal Care during Summer for Young Girls.

Here, I’m giving you simple tips for Vaginal Care during Summer for Young Girls

1. Practice Good Hygiene

From as early as 2 years old, your child must be aware of good touch and bad touch. They should understand hygiene practices for keeping the private area clean and dry, wiping from vagina to rectum (not vice versa) to avoid the spread of bacteria, and the importance of long-term vaginal health. Remember to stay away from scented hygiene products; mild soap and water are all that we need.

2. Conscious Breathable Clothing

I observe that many young girls today prefer tight-fitting, non-cotton, shimmery clothes. It’s essential to help them understand the importance of wearing breathable, mostly cotton clothes that are loose-fitted, especially during summer. They should completely avoid jeans, leggings, shimmery, and dark-colored clothes. Pay attention to the fabric of undergarments as well.

3. Hydration

Dehydration can impact vaginal moisture levels, leading to dryness and itching. Encourage them to drink water and other healthy beverages like tender coconut drinks, buttermilk, and kokum juice. Ensure to avoid sugary drinks, as excess sugar can disrupt the vaginal microbiome, leading to pH imbalances and yeast and bacterial infections.

4. Swim Hygiene

Changing out of wet clothes immediately after swimming, wearing considerably looser swimwear, showering after swimming, and choosing the least crowded swimming clubs are a few things that can be encouraged to ensure happy swimming days if your child loves swimming. Additionally, check the hygiene of hotel pools before jumping in.

5. Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can support vaginal health. Foods like yogurt with probiotics and cranberries may help maintain a healthy balance of vaginal flora. Additionally, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water can also contribute to vaginal health by ensuring proper lubrication and pH balance. Incorporating these dietary choices can be beneficial for overall vaginal well-being. Below are a few good foods you can try from TOTS AND MOMS
