Points to be noted:
1. Remember baby will be in the same lying position no matter how you feed the baby.
2. The flow is decided by the baby, not by the position of the mom.
3. It does not pose any risk of aspiration nor ear infection because breast milk has n number of immunological and protective factors
This position is less exhausting for new mothers and saves them from neck, back, and arm aches and hence helps them to continue to breastfeed longer.
Tips
1. Bring the baby close to you and spread your arm wide comfortably. This way there is no chance that you roll over and hurt the baby
2. You do not need to change the baby’s position to offer other breast but can just tilt a bit and continue.
3. Initial days until the baby gets the hang of perfect latching you may have nipple crack issues, which can be avoided by supporting the child for proper latching with the help of a partner or parent.
4. If the latch is good babies do not swallow air and hence not mandatory to burp them. But it’s good to hold them for 10-15 minutes upright if they have gastric issues.
Happy Breastfeeding!!
