During pregnancy, one doesn’t menstruate and even slightest spotting we must act as the doctor says. Now post-delivery be it vaginal or c section women bleed for 2 to 10 weeks and this is called LOCHIA or Postpartum Bleeding not to be mistaken with periods or menstruation.

Periods postpartum can be delayed by a month or two for some and for a year for others. For some, it is easier than before and for some, it is more painful. It can’t be the same for all but knowing few details can be helpful. It’s a general assumption that one who breastfeeds will not conceive. So let’s see all those details in this video.

Why does menstruation change post-delivery?

It’s ok to observe irregularity, change in color, more blood clots, intense cramps during post-delivery menstruation. Towards the end of the video, you will know when to visit a doctor.

Chances of Pregnancy when not menstruating

It’s important to remember that even if you’re not menstruating regularly while you’re breastfeeding, you could still ovulate and become pregnant. So, if another baby is not in your plan right now, be sure to use a reliable method of birth control, like condoms. If you are willing to take pills then please check and buy breastfeeding-friendly pills only.

When to visit a doctor?

1.    Too much bleeding than regular

2.    Excess blood clots, more than a size palm-size ball

3.    Periods more than 7 days

4.    Spotting between periods

5.    Skipping a period after you resume menstruation

6.    If it doesn’t resume after 3 months of stopping to breastfeed

7.    Fever while menstruating

Can I use Menstrual Cup?

Until the cervix is completely closed it is not advisable to use a Menstrual cup. It’s good to use cloth pads or disposable ones for 3 to 4 periods. Also do remember that your cup size may vary now and you may find it difficult or painful to insert it.

When is it ideal to think of a second baby?

Post 18 months or 1.5 years you may plan a second child if it was a normal delivery. In the case of C, section doctors advise planning after the baby completes 3 years.
