PURAN POLI | BELE OBBATTU - Maida Free Recipe for Toddlers, Kids & Family

A traditional sweet that is compulsory during the festival season and mainly in south Indian houses. A balance of ingredients and a whole lot of texture rich authentic sweet is a must to do sweet for the celebrations.

Ingredients

Dough

  1. Fine Semoilina/ Chiroti Rava - 1 1/2 cup
  2. Salt - As needed
  3. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  4. Water - 3/4 cup
  5. Oil - 1/2 cup

Puran/ Stuffing

  1. Water - 5 cups + 1 cup(to melt jiggery)
  2. Toor Dal/ Chana Dal/ Togari Bele - 1 cup
  3. Coconut - 1/2 cup
  4. Elaichi/ Cardamom - 1/2 tsp
  5. Jaggery - 1 cup or 250 grams
  6. Milk - 1 tbsp

Method

  1. Add Fine Semolina - 1 1/2 cup, Salt as needed, Turmeric - 1/2 tsp and mix well in a bowl to combine all the ingredients well. Now add 3/4 cup Water for soft dough consistency.
  2. Kneed it well to form a soft dough. Add Oil - 1/2 cup and knead it well again. Now add 1/2 cup Oil again for the on top of the dough and allow the dough to rest for 3-4 hours.
  3. Add Water - 5 cups and allow it to boil then Togai bele -  1 cup is added and 2 tsp of Oil and close the lid for boiling. Now in a separate bowl add Jaggery - 250 grams and 1 tbsp Water and allow the Jaggery to melt. Once its melted add Milk - 1 tbsp to it and mix well.
  4. To test if the Togari Bele is boiled we need to just if it could get smashed completely in hand, that's when its ready. Once the Togari Bele is boiled strain it completely and store the dal water in another container.
  5. Add Coconut grated - 1/2 cup to the boiled Togari bele bowl and also the melted Jaggery mixture with the straining process.
  6. Add Cardamom Powder - 1/2 tsp and mix well once we get a boil we need to cool down aside.
  7. Run the Togari bele with jaggery and Coconut mixture in a mixer in small quantities to make the Puran soft and smooth texture. Make small balls of it and keep it handy for making the obbattu. The dough is made into small balls and flattened on a butter paper with oil. Stuff the Puran into the flattened dough and close it completely all around.
  8. Now with the help of Oil flatten the stuffed dough with oil on a greased butter paper and transfer it to the heated and greased tava for cooking.
  9. Allow the Puran Poli - Obbattu to cook both sides with oil as required, once its a little golden brown both sides its ready to serve.
  10. Puran Poli Obbattu - Maida free Recipe is ready for naivedya and also to serve to the near and dear.

How to prepare sweets by avoiding maida

Benefits of Togari Bele/ Toor Dal

• Easily digestible and can be eaten daily

Method of Preparation
