Banana Appam for Toddlers and Kids

Kids have a natural affinity for things that taste sweet and bananas deliver, which is why they’re often so easily accepted. Appam is a type of pancake, originating from the Indian subcontinent, made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk. It is a common food in  Karnataka( Mangalore regions), Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Sri Lanka. It is eaten most frequently for breakfast or dinner. Appam made with Banana is a great combination. Banana Appam for Toddlers & Kids | Healthy Finger Food for Babies

Quick, easy and super healthy evening or lunch box variety which can be made under 10 minutes. This banana appam needs very minimal ingredients and turns out to be an ideal finger food for toddlers.

Ingredients

  1. Banana - 2 medium sizes (Paccha Balehannu in Kannada)
  2. Jaggery Powder - 3/4 cup
  3. Wheat flour - 1 cup
  4. Rice flour - 1 tbsp
  5. Cardomom - 1 pinch
  6. Salt - 1 pinch
  7. Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup(optional)
  8. Baking Soda - 1 pinch
  9. Water or Milk - to adjust

Method

  1. Take a ripe banana(known as paccha baalehannu in Kannada) preferably and mash it well in a bowl.
  2. Add jaggery powder or grated jaggery to the bowl.
  3. Add 1 cup of wheat flour and 1 tbsp of rice flour. 
  4. Add grated coconut, elachi powder, salt, a pinch of baking soda.
  5. Add milk as and when needed. Mix these well without lumps. Make the batter thick
  6. Use Appe pan and pour some ghee onto it.
  7. Pour 1 spoon full of batter to the Appe pan.
  8. Use the medium flame to cook, close the lid for about 3-4 minutes allow to cook.
  9. Now, flip the appam on the other side using a toothpick or a small stick, appam is ready to serve.

Method of making Banana Appam
