10 Tips to Make Your Baby Sleep Better
1. Healthy Food Habits – Breast milk or Formula Milk babies need to be offered when they ask for it. It is ok to wake up at night and do not expect small humans to sleep at a stretch without disturbing you. They come with small tummies which tend to get empty with each pee. Babies who have started on solids need to have good, healthy and the right food not just at night but the whole day. At night avoid giving them food that makes them gassy.
2. Stomach Health – If your baby is generally colic and always has gas trouble give him good tummy time, stomach massage, burp him well. A baby in pain will not eat well, become fussy, and eventually will not sleep well too. Pediatricians say colic pain doesn’t bother babies at night, but the gas does. So ensure to feed him light and easily digestible food at night.
3. Do Not Over stimulate – Activity just before sleep should not be too tiring for babies. In current age night, times are the family times, and it’s unavoidable in the busy days to spend much time with kids in the morning. Just ensure you do not overstimulate your babies by playing tiring games and making them highly active to sleep. Reading books can be the best activity at night for their overall development it helps a lot.
4. Sleep Environment – Making babies comfortable is very important to help them have sound sleep. Put them in comfortable clothing that suits the weather, keeps their bed clean and without any toys, Use curtains, dimmer the light, and ensure there is no noise. Using white noise or playing calm songs helps them. Nothing better than you singing though. Keep them close. Also, try repeating words like Chalo it’s sleep time, bedtime let’s go to bed around the same time daily. There have been multiple theories saying multiple things but trust me Co-sleeping is easier and best for their growth and sound sleep.
5. Forced Sleep – We forget that babies are little humans and often tend to set their sleep time according to our preferences. We may want to work, go out, do some chores and hence we want them to sleep and put them on the bed and pat them continuously to sleep. They watch us and learn and hence if not in the morning we need to make this a family activity which is at par followed by all. If others are watching tv, having dinner, or just talking they will want to play and not miss the activity. Also, they won’t have calm sleep and keep waking in between.

6. Use Best Diapers – Diaper plays a major role in helping babies sleep well. Use the best diapers possible for their nighttime and any comfortable ones during the day. I recommend Pamper Premium Diapers for the night and have also made videos on cloth diapers. I swear by Superbottoms brand Cloth Diapers for both morning and night usage. If you are interested in buying it I shall be sharing a 5% discount coupon which can be used upon purchase along with any other discount codes or offers.
7. Lookout for Sleep Signs – Your baby is the best person to tell you he’s feeling sleepy and you must never neglect any sleep signs. Yawning, Calmer Baby, Less Active, or Bored to play are signs that it’s time to run to bed.
8. Be Consistent – Babies love routine and hence being consistent is very important. Plan your work along the time of his sleep and be available when he wants to go to bed. Initial few months it would really not be possible but eventually when they reach the 3 or 4 months bar things will start settling in. If you have an event or just going to a restaurant ensure to come back around the same time possibly. Again when they start on solids and with their activity increasing it shall change so be ready for the new change and act accordingly.
9. There is No Good or Bad – Every baby and every parenting style is different but we have a tendency to name call. A baby who sleeps well is a good baby and a baby who doesn’t is bad. Why so? Isn’t this just a habit that shall get better with time? Why spread negativity unnecessarily?
10. Take Care of Yourself – A calm, healthy and well-slept parent can take care of the baby better, isn’t it? Rest well and definitely take the help of people around you. It is well connected with a baby’s sleep because a frustrated parent cannot be calm around a baby and when you need help how will you be able to help your baby?
Remember that Babies sleep less when they are ill. Do not give them overdosage of medicines ever. Divij had colic issues and was not sleeping at night. I naturally associated it with colic but until the doctor said it was his breathing issue that was bothering him. He gave him some nasal drops and then he was sleeping well again. So if your baby suddenly changes his sleep routine have a word with your doctor.
