COCONUT PURAN POLI | KAAYI OBBATTU - Maida free Recipe for Toddlers, Kids & Family

Coconut Puran Poli Kaayi Obbattu for the festive celebration and for naivedyam for the puja. This is a perfect dessert for the times of festival, we can serve it to the family and friends.

Ingredients

Dough

  1. Fine Semolina/ Chiroti Rava - 1 1/2 cup
  2. Salt - As needed
  3. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  4. Water - 3/4 cup
  5. Oil - 1/2 cup

Stuffing

  1. Coconut - 1 ground
  2. Jaggery - 250 gms
  3. Sesame seeds - 1/4 cup
  4. Poppy seeds - 1/4 cup
  5. Fried Gram - 1/4 cup
  6. Cardamom Powder - 1/2 tsp

Method

  1. Add Fine Semolina - 1 1/2 cup, Salt as needed, Turmeric - 1/2 tsp and mix well in a bowl to combine all the ingredients well. Now add 3/4 cup Water for soft dough consistency.
  2. Knead it well to form a soft dough. Add Oil - 1/2 cup and knead it well again. Now add 1/2 cup Oil again for the on top of the dough and allow the dough to rest for 3-4 hours.
  3. For stuffing keep a container ready on the stove, add Jaggery - 250 grams, Water - 1 cup Water, and allow the Jaggery to melt, now add Milk - 1 cup and mix well.
  4. Once it just melted filter it when hot and keep aside. Keep all the seeds ready for grinding in a small mixer.
  5. In a small mixer add Fried gram - 1/4 cup, Sesame seeds - 1/4 cup and Poppy seeds - 1/4th cup and separately grind it and keep it ready.  Now take the filtered Jaggery syrup and cook it or heat it till we get one string consistency. For that, we can take a water test, add 2-3 drops of Jaggery Syrup to a small bowl containing water. If the Jaggery dissolves it is not cooked yet and we need to allow it to cook well for some more time and try the same test again. Now add few drops into a bowl of water and check if the Jaggery can be made into a ball, if yes then its ready for the
    next procedure.
  6. Add grated and Ground Coconut - 1 ground and keep mixing, mix it till you see few bubbles indicating the addition of other ingredients.
  7.  Add Sesame seeds powder - 1/4 cup, Poppy seeds powder - 1/4 cup and Fried Gram powder - 1/4 Cup spoon by spoon and mix continuously to avoid lumps and finally add Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp, mix well and once few bubbles are seen to pop out it's cooked completely and we can off the stove and allow the mixture to cool down.
  8. Shape the Coconut stuffing to a lemon size with regular greased hands. Now grease the butter paper with oil and flatten the dough with hands, keep a Coconut stuffing in the center and close it completely with the white dough and flatten the dough ball with hands.
  9. The flattened dough is ready to transfer into a frying pan that is greased with oil and heated.
  10. Fry it on both sides till brown and its ready to serve.
  11. Coconut Suran Poli Obattu is ready to serve and celebrate the festival.

Method of preparation
