Hospital Bag List for Mom

1. Medical Records: All the follow-up details, scan reports would be well recorded in a file. Keep it handy and safe preferably in the front zipper of your bag for easy reach.

2. Insurance Papers: Check with hospital staff and your Insurance company if you are to opt for a cashless facility or reimbursement. Carry documents accordingly.

3. Birth Plan: It is always good to discuss your birth plan prior and keep a copy of the same with you so that in case of a change in doctor, he or she knows your plan.

4. Medicine Box: Carry a medicine box with Calcium, Iron, or any other regular medicines you are on and would continue to take them.

5. Maternity Gown: Post delivery you would need a breastfeeding-friendly gown, refer to the links given above to know more about Maternity Clothing Tips and here to buy Maternity Clothes. Click here to check out.

6. Adult or Maternity Diapers: Post delivery – be it Normal or C-Sec – a bleeding mom would need comfortable diapers. The hospital would provide diapers for day one but in case you bleed a lot it’s suggested to carry some heavy-duty diapers. In India as I checked it’s hard to find Maternity diapers that are soft and best. As I couldn’t I had to buy Adult Diapers. I would also recommend buying pant-style diapers which stay in a place and give support to your loose belly. You can also buy Use and Throw Panties, Hipster Panties, and regular sanitary pads.

7. Maternity Bras: Pack a couple of Maternity Bras for the convenience of breastfeeding. These bras come with front openings which make them easy to breastfeed.

8. Breast Pads: One may not have engorged breast for the first few days but it’s safe to keep breast pads in case you produce excess breast milk, as you would not like to spoil or wet your gown.

9.  Shawl or Stole or Sweater: Hospital rooms get too cold at times and it’s safe and good to carry your favorite warmers.

10. Socks and Slippers: While walking around the room pre and post-delivery you will find it comfortable to wear socks and slippers. Post-delivery is mandatory to walk even if you had a normal or c section delivery.

11. Pillow and Blanket: Don’t be surprised to see this in the hospital bag list. Some of us are really accustomed to comfort of our own bed and pillows. To make it easier on D-Day carrying your favorite pillow doesn’t hurt.

12. Toiletries: Just as your regular travels or trips would need you can carry some basic toiletries like soap, paste, brush, and shampoo. A plastic bag to carry back your used clothes would be helpful.

13. Towel: Pre or post-delivery to stay fresh and have a relaxed body one must have a good hot bath. Carry a soft towel which can be helpful.

14. Simple Makeup Kit: One likes it or not you will have visitors prior to and post-delivery and it’s good to look presentable though your mind is preoccupied with thoughts of the baby.

Hospital Bag List for Baby

1. Rompers or any Baby Dresses: Many hospitals these days provide clothes for newborns. You may like them or not and hence I suggest carrying a few pairs of newborn clothes. It’s a custom in many families to share used clothes for newborns and just in case remember to have washed them prior. Rompers or Bodysuits are best for babies as they cover them from top to toe.

2. Caps: It is safe to keep babies’ heads and ears warm and hence check and buy a few cotton or woolen hats prior. https://amzn.to/2UrC3SV

3.  Socks and Mittens: If you are not using a romper or bodysuit for your baby it’s good to have socks handy. Some babies have long nail when born and they can really hurt themselves while rubbing or moving their fingers on their face. Mittens cover their palms and keep them warm too.

5. Muslin Squares: Muslin clothes are soft cotton fabrics with plain weave and hence are widely used for babies. Muslin squares are small pieces of clothes that can be kept handy to burp and wipe the baby.

6. Diapers & Wipes: All hospitals these days have their own pharmacy where you can buy all this stuff for baby. However, you get a lot of offers when purchased online so it’s a good idea to stock it prior and carry some to the hospital.

8. Car Seat: This is a Going Home essential for a baby. In India, it’s not mandatory to use Car Seaters yet but don’t you think you must use one for the safety of your baby? I’m an avid fan of Car Seater and have been using it for my elder one and bought one for the newborn too. It not only keeps your child safe during travel but keeps you sane and free while traveling.
