Pumpkin Puree for Babies

Pumpkin is a great first food option for babies. Its loaded with nutrients like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus to name a few.

Ingredients

  1. Pumpkin - 1/2 cup chopped
  2. Cinnamon Powder - a pinch
  3. Water - 1 cup

Method

  1. Take a piece of pumpkin, deseed and remove the skin neatly. Wash it well and chop it. Add it to a pressure cooker or a pan and add water.
  2. Pressure cook it for 2 whistles or pan cook by closing a lid for about 10 - 15 minutes. Once cooked transfer the cooked pumpkin pieces to a blender jar and add a pinch of cinnamon powder. You can even use cumin or pepper powder to flavor the puree.
  3. Blend it to a fine puree and the Pumpkin puree is ready to be served.
  4. Serve it immediately or cool and freeze in ice cube tray. Frozen puree cubes can then be stored in zip lock covers for further use.

1. Be sure to select a fresh pumpkin.

2. Deep yellow should be the color of it when cut open.

3. It’s always good to talk to a pediatrician before introducing solids.

4. You can add another fruit or vegetable with pumpkin for 7 months + babies

5. You can also use the steaming method to make the puree.
