Types of C Section

Not most of us would be aware that during C Section there are two incisions done. The first one on our abdomen and the other one into our uterus.

1. Horizontal – On the bikini line and 95% of cases this is done in today’s world.  Results in less bleeding and proves to be safe if you want to try a VBAC. (Vaginal Birth After C Section)

2. Vertical – Classical Cut from navel to bikini line vertically in the middle of the abdomen. It used to be common a few years back but now it is limited to special cases like unusual baby positions or in case of any emergency which requires immediate delivery. This is slightly more painful and takes more time to heal.

Closing C-Section Incisions:

1. Staples – Skin stapler is used to close the incision and it is said to be the easiest and quickest.

2. Stitches or Suture – Traditional and safe method by stitching the would using dissolvable or removable medical threads called a suture.

3. Glue – Skin glue is considered to leave the lightest scar but it’s not generally used as it depends on various factors. How big and deep the incision is and how difficult or easy the delivery was.

Taking care of Wound:

1. Follow medicines as prescribed. Especially antibiotics as they save you from infection and help heal soon.

2. Keep the area clean and dry, air it out if necessary, and never scratch

3. Eat right – until the wound is healed eat easily digestible foods as anything gassy will create more problems. Ensure to include probiotics in your meal plan which help you heal faster, like curd, buttermilk, paneer.

4. Don’t bother about stomach binders for a while

5. Take support in breastfeeding and holding a baby. Good to sleep and feed

6. Be active and moving but say no to stressful exercises for 3 months

7. Take time for comfortable sex

8. Use western toilets and sleepover cots

9. Drink lots of water

10. When in doubt talk to your doctor
