Mashed Vegetable Rice for Babies & Toddlers

In the early days of weaning it is important to introduce texture to babies. If not babies continue to eat only pureed food which later becomes very difficult for them to adapt to family food. This Mashed Vegetable Rice is an easy and very common way of introducing textures in baby food. Here I’ve used mixed vegetables and rice you can even add any lentils. This can be given to babies above 6 months whenever you feel your baby is ready for textures.
Vegetables play a very vital role in growing babies. These provide the required vitamins, nutrients for healthy growth. It’s always good to choose organic vegetables for babies. Also, I’ve used rice here and you can replace it with any millets of your choice. I’ve pressure cooked the vegetables and rice here you can choose to pan cook which may take a little more time and monitoring.

Ingredients
- Rice - 2 tbsp
- Peas - 20
- Carrot - 1/2 chopped
- Beans - 5 chopped
- Potato - 1/2 chopped
- Ghee - 1 tsp
- Pepper powder - a pinch
Method
- In a pressure cooker add rinsed rice, followed by vegetables.
- Add enough water, close and pressure cook for 3 - 4 whistles, or pan cook for 20 minutes.
- Release the pressure and mash rice and vegetables with the help of a ladle. You can even use a hand blender. Remember not to grind it completely.
- Add ghee, a pinch of pepper powder.
- Mix all the ingredients well and its ready to serve to the baby.
- Mashed Vegetable Rice is all ready to be served to babies.

Method
1. In a pressure cooker add rinsed rice, followed by vegetables.
2. Add enough water, close, and pressure cook for 3 – 4 whistles, or pan cook for 20 minutes.
3. Release the pressure and mash rice and vegetables with the help of a ladle. You can even use a hand blender. Remember not to grind it completely.
4. Add ghee, a pinch of pepper powder.
5. Mix all the ingredients well and it’s ready to serve to the baby.
6. Mashed Vegetable Rice is all ready to be served to babies.

Note :
• Talk to the pediatrician before introducing solids
• You can add any vegetables of your choice to make this mash.
• Parboiled rice is best while introducing rice to babies.
