Beetroot is the most favored vegetable when it comes to making healthy foods. But unfortunately, there are limited recipes that these are used for and hence it is all the more difficult to feed this to kids. Beetroot dates halwa is one such easy-to-make recipe and tastes yum. The recipe here tastes just like carrot halwa without leaving that beety after taste.

Beetroots are rich in folate, manganese and hence reduce the risk of anemia in babies and kids when fed regularly. Beetroot is a great brain booster food too. Dates are a great natural sweetener that can be given to babies too. It helps healthy weight gain, boosts the nervous system, and is a great energy booster. This Beetroot Dates Halwa can be given to babies after 8 months. You can skip jaggery for them as the sweetness from dates and apple is sufficient for them in this recipe.

Ingredients

  1. Beetroot - 2 cups grated
  2. Apple - 1/2 grated
  3. Milk - 2 cups
  4. Dates - 12 soaked
  5. Jaggery Powder - 2 tbsp
  6. Ghee - 2 tbsp
  7. Cardamom Powder - a pinch
  8. Almonds - 10 chopped
  9. Cashewnuts - 10-15

Method

  1. Soak soft dates in a bowl with little water. Add the soaked and deseeded dates to a blender and make a fine puree and set aside.
  2. In a pan add milk followed by beetroot and apple.
  3. Mix and simmer till the milk is reduced to 20%. Ensure to keep stirring in between.
  4. Add Jaggery Powder, cardamom powder, ghee, and dates puree and mix it well. Simmer again for about 5 minutes while stirring in between. Add fried almonds and cashew nuts to the mixture.
  5. Mix and serve Beetroot Dates halwa hot or cold.
  6. Beetroot Dates Halwa is ready to be served.

Instructions to make Beetroot Dates Halwa :

1. Soak soft dates in a bowl with little water. Add the soaked and deseeded dates to a blender and make a fine puree and set aside.

3. Mix and simmer till the milk is reduced to 20% of it. Ensure to keep stirring in between. Beetroot Dates Halwa for babies, toddlers kids chukundar halwa dessert

4. Add Jaggery Powder, cardamom powder, ghee, and dates puree and mix it well. Simmer again for about 5 minutes while stirring in between. Add fried almonds and cashew nuts to the mixture.

6. Beetroot Dates Halwa is ready to be served.

Notes:

• Babies can handle the texture of grated beetroot so there is no need to worry. If you wish you can make a puree of beetroot and add it to milk too. 

• Like other halwa, you can serve this hot or refrigerate for a while and serve it chilled.
