In this article I’ll be sharing how to make Turmeric Milk, Ginger Kashaya and Tulsi Kashaya easily at home.
Cough and cold caused by viruses and bacteria can be very irritating at times. Its the natural way of your body clearing mucus and other foreign irritants. Acute cough which stays for a week or two isn’t harmful and can be treated with these home remedies in kids and adults. However if its been bothering one more than that period, its advisable to meet a doctor.
These 3 home remedies/ drinks are suggested for 12+ months toddlers and adults and not recommended for babies. I would recommend to take these twice a day, once after breakfast and once after dinner before sleep for best results. These drinks are very soothing in general and can be had by any, even when not suffering from a cough or cold.

1. Turmeric Milk
- Milk – 1 cup
- Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
- Pepper – 2 Nos Crushed
- Sugar – 1 Tbsp
- In a wide pan take milk and add turmeric powder to it.
- Add crushed pepper and sugar or jaggery as needed.
- Put on the flame and keep stirring the mixture. The light yellow color of the milk will start turning dark yellow. Boil it for about 5 minutes.
- Once well boiled sieve the mixture to a glass. Add more sugar if needed and serve hot.
- Turmeric Milk is ready to be served.
2. Ginger Kashaya
Ingredients
- Ginger – 1/2 inch Grated
- Water – 1 cup
- Honey – 1 tsp
- Lemon – 1/2 tsp
- Add 1 cup water to the pan, add Ginger – 1/2 tsp grated and allow it to boil.
- Allow the mixture to boil for 5 -10 minutes, till the water changes the color.
- Keep the mixture aside to cool a bit and leave it aside for some time. Strain the mixture.
- Squeeze few lemon drops and a tsp of Honey and mix well and serve it semi hot.
- Ginger Kashayam or Ginger Tea or Adhrak Kashay is ready to serve.
3. Tulsi Kashaya

- Tulsi (Indian Basil) Leaves – 10 Nos.
- Water – 1 cup
- Peppercorns – 2 Nos (crushed)
- Jaggery – 1 tsp
- Add 1 cup water to the pan, add Tulsi leaves, crushed peppercorns and jaggery.
- Allow the mixture to boil for 5 -10 minutes, till the water changes the color. Strain the mixture.
- Serve it hot for adults and lukewarm for toddlers and kids.
- Tulsi Kashayam or Tulsi Kashay is ready to serve.
