Amaranth Porridge for Babies & Toddlers

Amaranth or Rajgira is a less known but healthiest grain available. Research says that the protein available in Amaranth is equal to animal-based protein and is easy to digest too. These gluten-free royal seeds are known to strengthen bones and improve vision. These super qualities make it one of the best baby food to introduce.
Amaranth Porridge for Babies & Toddlers
Amaranth or Rajgira porridge can be given to babies above 8 months. You can choose to cook this with milk or water. Here in this recipe, I’ve used Amaranth Flour. These are also available in the form of grains or popped amaranth seeds. Any form can be used to prepare porridge, I shall try to add in methods to cook the different forms of Amaranth or Rajgira available in the market very soon.

Amaranth/Rajgira Porridge for Babies & Toddlers
Amaranth Porridge

Ingredients
- Amaranth Flour - 3 tbsp
- Ghee - 1 tsp
- Dates Syrup / Jaggery Syrup - 2 tsp
- Dry Fruits Powder - 1 tsp
- Hot Water - as needed
Method
- Take Amaranth Flour in a pan, add ghee and dry roast the mixture for 2 -3 minutes until it leaves a nice aroma.
- Once roasted add hot water and keep mixing the mixture continuously using a whisk to avoid forming lumps.
- Add dates syrup or jaggery syrup and dry fruits powder to add in more nutrition to the porridge. Both these are optional, as you can also make a savory version of this by adding cumin and pepper powder.
- Mix all the ingredients and cook the mixture for another 2 minutes and the porridge is ready.
- Amaranth Rajgira porridge is ready to be served.

5. Amaranth Rajgira porridge is ready to be served.

Note :
1. As mentioned you can cook this in milk or water
2. Make a savory porridge by adding pepper and cumin powder.
3. Ensure porridges are served thick to babies and not very diluted or watery.
4. Talk to your pediatrician before introducing any new food.
