Sweet Potato Poha Porridge for Babies, Toddlers, and Kids

Sweet Potato Poha Porridge is a calcium-rich porridge made using natural dates powder. As poha can be soaked and cooked quickly and this recipe be made along with cooked sweet potato, it’s a great time-saving dish too. The grainy porridge is a great way to introduce textures to growing, curious babies.
Sweet Potatoes make a very healthy baby food. The versatility of this to adapt to any type of food makes it easier for us to include baby-friendly foods. We can make purees, pancakes also dosas using this Sweet Potato. Also, it is always important to introduce different varieties with a combination of vegetables, pulses, millets, or grains to balance the nutrition required for your baby, which is taken care of here. This can be given to babies from 6+ Months.

Sweet Potato Poha Porridge for Babies, Toddlers, and Kids

Ingredients
- Sweet Potato – 1 cooked
- Poha/Beaten Rice – 1/4 cup
- Dry Dates Powder – 1 tbsp
- Cardamom – a pinch
- Water – As needed
- Ghee – As needed
Method
- Take Poha in a wide bowl, rinse and soak for 10-15 minutes. After 10 -15 minutes, rinse the water from poha, keep it ready in the bowl. In another wide pan, take boiled sweet potatoes, peel the skin keep it ready for mashing.
- In the same wide pan, add the soaked poha and mash it along with Sweet Potato. To naturally sweeten the porridge add Dry Dates Powder.
- Add cardamom powder and milk along. To this add ghee and mix it well on low/medium flame by continuously stirring the mixture.
- For younger babies, you mash it further while the mixture is cooking. Mix and cook continuously on low flame for the perfect consistency. You can even add dry fruits tossed in ghee at this stage and serve it as a Kheer. Delicious Sweet Potato Poha Porridge is ready to be served.
Note:
- Soak poha for a longer time if you want it softer for babies.
- Cook the Sweet Potato for 1-2 whistles only.
- Instead of Dry Dates Powder, Jaggery or Almond Jaggery Powder or any other Natural Sweeteners can be added.
- This porridge can even be used as a fasting recipe or as a morning breakfast. It will be a filling dish.

Method of making Sweet Potato Poha Porridge
